Lexia® Core5® Embedded Into Seven Schools

What do The S.E.A.L. Foundation, Analog Devices Foundation, BayCoast Bank, the Carney Family Foundation, the Catholic Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts, and the Diocese of Fall River all have in common?  They have partnered together to provide seven area elementary schools the opportunity to increase their students’ reading fluency rate, accuracy, and comprehension scores through Lexia® Core5®, a research-based software program.

In the Fall of 2020, students in grades K-2 in the Diocese of Fall River elementary schools were tested in reading skills. Weaknesses in fluency and comprehension were identified and The S.E.A.L. Foundation looked at how we could support the schools in bolstering student scores in these areas. Lexia® Core5® Reading Program immediately came to mind as a strategy to implement.

Lexia® Core5® delivers differentiated literacy instruction for students of all abilities in grades pre-kindergarten – 5. It is also useful for older students who are one or two years behind in their reading. Lexia® provides explicit, systematic, personalized learning in the six areas of reading instruction, targeting and reinforcing skill gaps, and giving teachers ongoing data and the student-specific resources they need for individual or small-group instruction. These detailed, real-time reports help teachers to prioritize and differentiate their instruction. This allows students to develop their reading skills at their own pace.

As we implement Lexia® Core5® this summer, teachers in these schools will engage in professional development to understand how to successfully deliver it for maximum benefit. Instruction will also be provided on how to integrate Lexia® with their reading programs.

Lexia® Core5® instruction is delivered to students in a game like environment that is motivating and fun. At the initial interface with Lexia®, students are placed in the levels of needed instruction and practice. As they “travel” through its different levels, students receive certificates of achievement to celebrate their success.

The S.E.A.L. Foundation looks forward to watching reading progress grow and thrive across each of the seven schools thanks to Lexia® Core5® and the teachers who will be implementing it.
